From K-State Setter to Omaha Real Estate

From K-State Setter to Omaha Real Estate

LeGrand-Swanson, who spent her college years orchestrating the Wildcats' offense, recently sat down to talk about the transition from the court to the corporate world. She spoke openly about what it was like leaving the structured life of a Division I athlete and stepping into the unpredictable world of property deals and client meetings.

"It's a different kind of competition," she said. "In volleyball, the scoreboard tells you how you did. In real estate, the feedback loop is longer, and you have to be patient. But the discipline and the teamwork from K-State definitely carry over."

Growing up in Omaha, LeGrand-Swanson always knew she wanted to return. The pull of family and the city's growing skyline were strong draws. After graduating, she spent a few years finding her footing before making the leap into commercial real estate, a field she finds both challenging and rewarding.

She admits the learning curve has been steep. Understanding zoning laws and property valuations is a far cry from reading a defense. But she says the core of the job is the same as being a setter: reading the situation, putting your teammates or clients in the best position to succeed, and executing the plan.

Now back in Omaha, LeGrand-Swanson is working to build her name in a new arena. She is focused on learning the local market and building relationships one conversation at a time. The competitive fire that fueled her on the court is now driving her to close her first major deal.
